Where are we?

Human Beings
Throughout history we’ve been pondering who are we? Why are we here? What set’s us apart from animals?  What’s our purpose? Is there a purpose? There must be a purpose?

Who are we?
We are ‘be’ -ings, aware enough that we are ‘to be.’ We are love, we are war, we are passion, we are pain, we are happiness, and we are hurt. Our effort to overcome and triumph over ourselves define who we are. Method does matter.

Why are we here?
Seriously, if were to make the most of our journey do we really need to know why? Can’t we just make the best out of what we got?

Animals – the use of tools?
Yes, some animals have been known to use tools, so that argument is moot. Wait, do they use of tools to communicate, to share ideas?

The same as we ever were.
I used to believe that we were in the midst of a great shift, a reconfiguration. An ‘evolutionary shift’ that has us stuck somewhere between ‘where we’re going’ and ‘where we’ve been.’ I may have been wrong, sometimes I believe we’re just the same as we ever were.

Purpose and reason
Why, or how can someone be so cruel, so evil…? We do some pretty weird stuff to ourselves (for selfish reasons, I believe). How can a people be so caring and generous yet be so cruel? Picture our past and what we’ve done to get here, what have we learned. We have to make the best of what we got – here, and now. Things don’t change fast or easily, patience and perseverance are the key.

It’s in our nature to fight and struggle, to resist.
It’s also in our nature to want change, although we’ll fight it along they way. These struggles shape us. What are we struggling for? We need reason.

The ‘struggle’ is how our society controls us (I’ve been told). They (us?) make us work, make us strive to pay bills, to spend, to want.  Our true lust for life is lost in that struggle, and eventually we’re overcome by the lack of time and energy. Beaten down, for we are the commodity, we are the resource.

Patience and perseverance
This, we have to look at ‘overall.’ Throughout the human experience, there have been glimpses of greatness, of people who are (by and by) ahead of there time. These people have been seeded throughout our history. Who are these enlightened ones today?

The next
We may still have quite a ways to go for enlightenment, and our journey is far from over. Let’s hope we have the gumption to forge forward, to progress and make the climb.
