What have we to fear?
What can we do?
What can we believe?
What have we accomplished?
What have we failed?
What have we risen above?
What have we cleared?
What have we understood?
What have we misunderstood?
What have we become?
What have we done?

Oh, and what have we wrought?

Targeted!

21Aug13

Targeted! 20-years and counting…

Ruled by intimidation.
Method, unspoken and hidden agendas. Hide the intention and only reveal what is perceived to be relevant (even though the action may need to know the cause).

The archer needs the target in sight before the arrow is set in flight.

 Work is, well… work.

“Work cannot be enjoyable; it’s inherently work and thus, you cannot be enjoying yourself!” That’s the usual thought behind work and some managers, yet when you ask employers whether they want their employees to like their jobs and enjoy their work they’ll usually wholeheartedly agree.

I want to enjoy my job!
I NEED to enjoy my job!

Time well spent
They seem to spend more time trying to make workers unhappy than they are trying to make them happy. I can be the strongest willed… I have complete control and will only allow so much.

We see what we want to see
We’re all mistaken in what we see.
What do we want?
Why do we want it?
Is it we or is it them?
Isn’t it about ‘me?
Who are they?
Why aren’t we them?

Completion is not invention or re-invention, but rather to finally be established and maybe even recognized.

Humble, me but be me.

While style is your style is wild – wildstyle

byDesign + byArt + byDesign
Industrial design, Applied arts versus the artisan…
What is graphic design? What is art?
Subjectiv-ism? Selectiv-ism? Invention-ism? Vision-ism?

Art = Communication
Pictures, words, images, sounds, thoughts, ideas, opinions? What is it? What is it meant to do? Why do we need it?

Art a medium to communicate feelings. Art conveys emotion; thoughts and ideas which can be extremely personal and/or utterly selfless. It’s an outlet for emotion.

Art = Subjectiv-ism
Some people don’t get it… they just don’t… they never will. Some look too closely, some disregard.

Design ≤ Art
What is design? What makes a designer? Can art be design and can design be art? At what moment in life do we realize we’re artists and what moment do we realize we’re also designers? I’ve come to believe that, in our fantasy world of self being, we tend to dream ourselves as designers before we actually are.

Living life in the moment
The glamorous life of a designer. Yup, the glamorous life… The balance of arrogance and humility. To be self indulgent, self absorbed and to be selfless, empathetic and caring.

Edu-math-ification or calculating the elements of design
Always have a reason for placing elements, pay close attention to space. Remember it’s not the individual elements, colors or notes it’s how they are placed together… how they are allowed to breathe… it’s their relationship that makes all the difference. The intension of the design? Space, the study of balance. The distance between entities, the content. Experience.

The forgotten Grid
What is the grid and why do we even care about it? The Grid is one of the most basic starting points in design. Composition is the grid

Many designers seem shun the idea of the grid from the get-go – I just don’t know what the intention is. They’ve got their head shoved so far up their ass they can’t see the light of day. Is it ignorance, arrogance or contempt? Designers personalities vary greatly with some being more artisans than engineers, and some more engineers than artisans.

Don’t be an asshole!
Touting yourself as a means to promote others while your real intention is to promote yourself is hollow, empty and selfish. While human nature dictates that we are ultimately in it for ourselves, we don’t have to be assholes. We need to accept that our existence is dependent on those around us. A friend aptly says, “pay attention, and don’t be an asshole!” (KH), of which I believe is great advice. If you’re successful and would like to ‘selflessly’ help others by using your credibility, that could be commendable. It all comes down to your intentions and expectations.

Intentions & Expectations
Do you really know your intentions? Seriously, how many times have we’ve been duped by ourselves? You may think you’re totally honest and upfront with yourself but in actuality you disregard the truth. I attribute that to self preservation, we seem to have been conditioned to follow the safest route, the path of perceived, least resistance. We lie to ourselves all the time, sometimes we’re blatantly hypercritical and self-righteous. Why? I believe it’s because we’ve been conditioned to try to come out on top, no matter the consequences. We’re taught to hide what we deem too risky.

First admit your intentions to yourself.
We could, at least, try to reveal our true intentions to ourselves. You’d think that this was easy but it’s really hard. I believe part of the path to glimpsing at truth is we need to find out our own reasons. What are our intentions? What are the underlying reasons for our actions? and, what do WE ‘expect’ to gain (or lose)? Uncovering our true intentions may be difficult but I believe it is necessary. Why? So you’re not an asshole, that’s why.

Your intentions, no matter how well hidden, tell the true story of who you are. Are your intentions honorable? This question, and many other questions remain. Hiding or disguising your intentions are selfish and deceitful, so just remember, DON’T BE AN ASSHOLE!

Worldly Perspective
If you listen carefully, you can hear the universe breathing. Some seem to be tuned into this pulse, receptive to their environment, spiritually, emotionally and even physically. I see this as a Zen-sation, a matter-of-being and a state-of-mind – something I aspire to.
Walking ahead of myself.
It takes time to know someone, and you never ‘really’ know that person, really. Your initial reaction might give the best impression; take note, you may also be seeing what you want to see. After all, we’re all salesmen trying to sell ourselves. How people behave when they deal with ‘other’ people that have little (or no) consequence to them? “That’s how they are going to behave with you in the future,” a friend told me that, good advice.

The Path
The hardest part is recognizing the path. Is it the right path? Is it the wrong path? Be careful, we tend to convince ourselves and go down the wrong path because it’s easy or what we think is right. We’re too jaded and trick ourselves into believing the unbelievable. Be wary and be thoughtful… it’s good to question, just don’t be afraid of facing the truth.

“Today is the first day of the rest of my life.”

Over and over again.
Day in and day out.
Falling down and getting up.

The Dedication Deal
“Imagine if'” or “what if” must stop, concentrate on what can be done – now. Don’t worry what was done, use what’s done to shape the future. Learn from past!

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
– George Santayana
